It’s tough to find professional, high-quality book cover design at affordable prices – especially if you’re a self-publishing author. Any graphic designer worth his salt knows that he can charge between $500 to $1000 for a stunning book cover design, and hundreds of authors will gladly pay it. The market is so saturated, many authors will even pay through the nose for a cheap, discount book cover design: Lulu.com for example sells a template cover at $115, and charges $450 for a “premium” cover design. Amazon.com charges $299 for a basic cover (“author’s advantage”) and $499 for a “unique” cover.

If you’re selling online (which you probably should be), you need a smart subtitle full of keywords that people will search for, and a fantastic cover image that gets them to click on your page. The great thing is that the internet is a total leveler: with a good cover and a smart seo subtitle, you can compete against any of the most professionally supported bestsellers (although, whether you actually win out this competition will depend entirely upon your content, which is up to you).

How it works

First, we’ll need your book’s working title, subtitle and synopsis or summary (what the book is about). Then, we recommend you browse amazon (here’s a link to the bestsellers page) and find 3 or 4 books that have a cover design you like (give us the books’ names and we’ll look them up.) You can also get a feel for what kinds of colors you want to use. If you have a very specific idea in mind, describe it in detail and we’ll generate some samples for you. You get unlimited rounds of revision until the cover design is just perfect!

We won’t hand-paint or draw something for you; however we have access to a wide variety of high-quality, royalty free images and we’re also very good at photo editing and manipulation. The very best book designers right now are also focusing on “minimalism” – which means the plainer, simpler your book style is (i.e. solid color background) the more “professional” it will look. Whichever style you choose, we will make sure it looks incredibly polished and eye-catching.

We can design the book to the page format/size of your manuscript, and also create a back cover and a spine (you’ll have to provide the text for the back cover although we can give you suggestions). An author photo is optional; we can add one into the design if you’d like. We can even generate an ISBN barcode for you, or else leave the appropriate amount of space for one (depending on which publishing/printing service you choose).

If you’re publishing an ebook, making it look like a “real” book is still very important! We make all covers high-resolution, so you can print out a copy of your new cover as postcards or posters and use it in promotion.
